What are the Collateral Benefits of SEM

Most clients tend to skip ahead and look only for the results when it comes investing in Search Engine Marketing. Most online business owners tend to look at the targeted keywords and phrases that they selected without fully realizing the importance of these keywords and they effect they have on their business.

When a site is properly optimized, it is being transformed from an amateur blank web page to a well thought out navigable site that attracts visitors and brings in the sales. In the same way, search engine spiders also look for sites that are well optimized so as to rank them higher. So, the easier you make it for the spider to crawl your pages and index your site, the better are your chances of getting high ranking on the search engines.

An important element when optimizing your site is the proper naming of file names, page titles and the proper placement of content. This helps to make your site more relevant to the spiders. Although Google does not really value meta tags, however, these are still used as a part of the algorithm and should not be avoided.

After the site has been coded properly, then you move to the next step. Search engine marketing is used to attract traffic to your site through various methods. Articles, press releases, directory submissions, RSS feeds and user groups can drive targeted traffic to your site.

This is where the collateral benefits of Search Engine management shows up. For instance, if you have been working on a series of press releases where you talk about your product, and in each press release you talk about some feature of your product. Even if you send the first press release, you will still have created a valuable inbound link to your page.

So, the next time you check Google to see whether your site has ranked higher, don't forget about those hidden keywords that are embedded in your site. You would be surprised at how many of these forgotten items end up at the top.
